HCC Hosts General Counsel of Ecobank Group,Samuel K.Ayim

Heritage Christian College (HCC), a university in Amasaman, Accra, has hosted Mr. Samuel K. Ayim in its session on “Time with an Achiever.” The lawyer, leadership and personal development coach, entrepreneur and motivational speaker who is also a Council Member of HCC shared his personal life story with the students of HCC. In a sterling narration of family and personal struggles dotted with enviable successes, Mr. Ayim challenged the students not to let their family problems be constraints on their paths to achievement and greatness but rather use them as steeping stones to realise their dreams. He taught the students how to do away with negative thinking and replace such thoughts with positive and transformational thinking that would ‘awaken the giants’ in them.

Professional Background

Samuel K. Ayim is a 52-year old Ghanaian. Until July 2016, Samuel was the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary of Ecobank Group, a position he held for a total of ten years. Samuel worked for the Ecobank Group in various capacities for almost 20 years. He has a total of nearly 25 years of professional experience in corporate world in the areas of law, capital markets, banking and finance, management, corporate governance and company secretarial practice, across Africa with high international exposure. Samuel has experience in strategic thinking and planning having been a member of the Group Executive Committee of Ecobank for several years and helping to set up or acquire or manage banking operations in 40 countries where Ecobank is present.

More on Professional Background

Before joining Ecobank, he worked for the Ghana Stock Exchange as Company Secretary & Legal Adviser (1992 to 1996). He was also a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana (1991-92). He assisted the then Senior Examiner to set and mark examination questions in Company Law for the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) Ghana (1994 to 1996).

In July 2017, Samuel left Ecobank to put his dream to the test as an Entrepreneur, Leadership and Personal Development Coach, Speaker and Teacher. He is certified by the renowned leadership expert, John C. Maxwell, as a leadership coach. He has started three new businesses under the Focus Life Group: FG Designs (dealing in African Wears); FL Properties (to deal in real estate); and Centre for Transformational Leadership in Africa – CTL Africa (to focus on leadership and personal development).


Samuel holds an MBA in International Financial Management from Exeter University, UK (1995); an LLB Degree from the University of Ghana (1989); a Barrister-at-Law (BL), Professional Law Certificate, from the Ghana Law School (1991); and an and currently pursuing a Past-Graduate Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies of Queen Mary University of London, UK (since January 2017). He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association.


Samuel is a Christian, married for 23 years and has five children. Samuel’s personal passion is help people resolve their personal problems and helping them develop their innate personal potentials.
