Functions of the HCU-IRB

Among others, the HCU-IRB shall be responsible for the following:

  1. The IRB will review all research proposals involving human subjects to ensure ethical compliance, focusing on issues such as informed consent, confidentiality, and risk management.
  2. The IRB will contribute to developing and reviewing institutional policies on research ethics.
  3. Provide independent, competent and timely review of the ethics and methods of proposed research studies before their commencement and regularly monitor ongoing studies.
  4. The IRB will have mechanisms to investigate complaints related to research and address issues of non-compliance.
  5. Establish and update institutional guidelines for the ethical conduct of research.
