Bachelor of Community Development and Theology

The Bachelor of Community Development and Theology takes seriously the creational mandate that humans, as divine image-bearers, join in the task to cultivate and mediate God’s blessing for the holistic flourishing of the global community. This privilege and responsibility emanates from God’s mission to bring righteousness and justice “on earth as it is in heaven” as revealed in Scripture and enfleshed in local churches. It is within this framework that students are equipped to lead individuals and communities toward holistic transformation in both domestic and international settings.

This programme trains transformative community leaders and practitioners able to demonstrate the character, capacity, and skills necessary to empower individuals and communities for holistic flourishing as an integral part of God’s missional agenda. Students will be equipped with foundational biblical-theological categories, relevant development theories and strategies (both international and community), and practical interdisciplinary opportunities all with the goal of shaping them as ethical agents of empowerment, entrepreneurship, and justice to the glory of God.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will have working knowledge of how to:

  • explicate a theology and theory of community development,
  • advocate for the church and community’s participation in community development,
  • assess a given community’s resources, problems and opportunities for holistic transformation,
  • lead in designing, advocating for, implementing, and evaluating appropriate interventional, community-level responses,
  • and embody the entrepreneurial, ethical, and philanthropic virtues befitting a global Christian community development practitioner.
