Prof. Ebenezer Ayesu is an Associate Professor of History and the Dean of Students at Heritage Christian University College. He is also Associate Professor at Lubbock Christian University (LCU), Lubbock, Texas, USA; and a Visiting Scholar in History and Global Studies at Abilene Christian University (ACU), Abilene, Texas, USA. Moreover, he was a Senior Lecturer (Part-Time) at the Departments of History Education Basic Education, Winneba. Before then, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, USA; MPhil. in African Studies and BA (Hons) from the University of Ghana (UG), Legon. He has been the recipient of the Lily Award for History at the Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, USA; and a Fulbright Scholar (2006 to 2008). Prof. Ayesu has been a Visiting Scholar at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway as well as a Lecturer at Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH, U.S.A. He was a Language Partner (Twi) in the Online Tutoring program at Yale University, USA. He was the Senior Tutor of the Jubilee Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon from 2012 to 2015. He recently hosted the Princeton in Ghana programme here at Heritage.
Prof. Ebenezer Ayesu has presented papers on Religion, Culture, Gender, Labour and African History at conferences in Ghana and abroad. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to book chapters; and edited a book on ‘Modern Democracy in Ghana and Traditional forms of Governance.’ He has produced documentaries on traditional festivals and authored biographies of some great traditional leaders of Ghana. Before then, he was a resource person for the University of California Education Abroad Programme (UCEAP-GH); and the University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC) all based at the University of Ghana, Legon.
He was a member of the committee that developed undergraduate, MPhil and Ph.D. syllabi for the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon. He is a member of the African Studies Association (USA); Historical Society of Ghana and the Green Earth Organization (and environmental NGO). He is also the Chairperson of the Adawso-Akuapem Development Association; and a member of the Reconciliation Group of the same traditional area.
Prof. Ayesu worked with the Ghana Education Service in the Akropong; Dangme East; Dangme West; and Akuapem-South Districts as a Circuit Supervisor in charge of School Supervision, Staff supervision and Reporting on Performance of pupils, teachers and communities’ management of their basic schools.
Prof. Ayesu is a Christian and fellowship with the Church of Christ at Oparekrom near Nsawam and is married with children.
