Heritage Christian College Awards 5 Groups In Start – Up Challenge

The Centre for Entrepreneurship Philanthropy and Ethics (CEPE) of Heritage Christian College (HCC) has awarded 5 Student Groups who emerged as winners of the 2nd edition of the HCC Start – up Challenge.

The awards were presented to the 5 groups during a press conference held at the school on December 20, 2019.

The HCC Start – up Challenge, an initiative of CEPE of HCC which commenced in 2018 is an annual competition of the university aimed at awarding viable and outstanding business proposals with various prizes as seed capital and provide support to turn their proposals into successful businesses.

The 5 groups who were adjudged winners of this year’s edition of the Challenge were Bos Piggery whose business entails Pig farming were presented with a seed capital of GH₵25,000.00. Followed by Envis Exarchy which is a Fashion design and clothing line were awarded GH₵20,000.00.

Smart Estate Agency were also presented with GH₵15,000.00 to start their Estate agency business. RM and JP Grooming World who are into Fashion design and beauty services were presented with GH₵10,000.00 and Relish farms too had GH₵10,000.00 to start their Vegetable farming business.

Samuel Adom – Kumatse of Bos Piggery said, “We actually want to encourage everyone out there to enroll in HCC if you’re looking for a place to have better tuition because what they are doing here is very spectacular. You don’t normally see these things anywhere. And we are so grateful to HCC.”

The Provost of HCC and Executive Director of CEPE, Williams Abayaawien Atuilik stressed that “Ultimately, we want all the students of HCC to start their own businesses to help in the growth and development of Ghana.”

During the occasion, some students and students groups were selected for mentoring in the HCC Talent Hunt 2018/2019 in the 1st and 2nd editions. Dennis Abbey (Authentic) who has a talent in Sports Commentary will have the opportunity to be mentored by Sports Journalist of GTV Sports Plus with vast experience on several Sports platform, Benjamin Willie Graham.

The 2 student groups 4G Crew and TWIM Dance Group who have Afrobeat Dancing as their talent will also be mentored by Jeremiah Acheah Obadiah (Jerry One) who is one of the Leading Dance Artistes and Lead Choreographers in the industry.

A Poet, Playwright and Creative Entrepreneur, Chief Moomen will mentor the groups A and T Comedy, Casmier Avadu and Dynamic Drama Group in Comedy and Drama. Benjamin Awuah (DJ Cobby Benny) who is into Disc Jockeying will be mentored by experienced Radio presenter and DJ, Andy Dosty and DJ Vyrusky.

Singer Nurudeen Adams will also get mentorship from Lynx Entertainment, a Ghanaian – based record label founded by Richie Mensah and HCC Vocal Chords who are into Singing/Choral music to be mentored by Ben Adjei, Music Director, singer and songwriter.

Chief Moomen noted that “I have been going to host programmes in a lot of schools but it isn’t often that you see schools giving out money to their students to start their businesses. So it is a very commendable initiative and I hope the students put into good use the funding given them as not everyone tend to get this opportunity. I’ m also impressed that HCC is focused a lot on Entrepreneurship”

“I am so excited to have been invited to mentor some of the students. I will do my best and share my ideas and I hope that all the students succeed”, he concluded.

Dennis Abbey emphasized that “I am looking forward to establishing a very good relationship with Benjamin Willie Graham and being ready to always learn from him, where he has been to, the efforts he put in his work so that I can do same and even do more. It’s really a good opportunity to learn from such a person like Benjamin.”
